Dear friends and fellow citizens, Thanks to all those who braved the heat and humidity to attend the first Patriot Party at Woodside Farms on Thursday night. Lively conversation, good fellowship, fine music and food combined for a wonderful evening event. It was a great kick-off to start celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and Virginia's crucial role in our founding. The Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation's valiant effort to re-open the city of Richmond's bidding process has reached a crucial point in the proceedings. Some of the statues, monuments, and cannons are soon to be sent to a California museum exhibit praising the destructive, irrational mobs for ‘re-imagining’ our collective history with violence. You can help us work to stop that from happening. Now is the time to donate to support the Foundation's legal effort! If you have given before, thank you for getting us to this point. Please help us finish the task at hand and donate again. Every penny will go to the Foundation’s fight to ensure these priceless historical artifacts are properly preserved! Here's the link to do so NOW. Again, thanks for your help since these uncivil events during that hot, violent summer five years ago which was a catalyst for the start of The Virginia Council. Sincerely,
Will McGurn Interim President, The Virginia Council
It's not too late to make a difference! The city of Charleston approved a settlement for the U.S. Vice President Calhoun statue that previously stood in Marion Square! The statue will not be lent to a museum in Los Angeles, but instead the city will turn over the Calhoun statue to the newly created Calhoun Monument Preservation Society nonprofit. Help us support the Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation as they fight to keep the Richmond monuments, cannons and statues from removal, negligence, decay, and misinterpretation! Please donate now to help preserve and defend the guideposts of our past. DONATE HERE
"On July 15, [Charleston] City Council approved a settlement in a lawsuit filed by several of Calhoun's descendants and the Board of Field Officers of the Fourth Brigade — a historic militia that owns Marion Square where the statue sat atop a stone pillar for more than 100 years. The lawsuit was the latest in a series of legal maneuvers from various groups in hopes of reinstating the statue to public display. It was filed in 2022 to prevent the city from lending the statue to an art exhibit in Los Angeles."
