| Dear friends and citizens, In a constitutional democratic republic, the voters are supposed to decide who their politicians are through the electoral process. How far away from that ideal of town halls, public servants and representative government have we gotten at this time? Fair play according to the rules, agreed upon by all, with transparency, seems to have been jettisoned for expediency and raw power. Forget decorum, or norms, or settled tradition which have guided the well-worn path of November elections. Not to mention election laws and procedures. For a number of years now we have faced last minute changes in eligibility, unmanned drop boxes, vastly expanded voting seasons, hidden ballot reviews, and even weeks of ballot counting AFTER election day! When colluding party leaders, Secretaries of State, Gerrymandering, media ‘influence’, last minute Judges rulings, selective lawfare, and the dead, moved away, or illegals are on voter rolls, how can we be sure our votes are counted and not diluted? Are the days of actually running on a detailed platform and describing to the people how it would affect our lives gone? How about substantive debates (or any debates) where a critical give and take can further explicate a candidates' position? Or individuals reviewing all this information and making a decision based on the impact on all citizens, not just their party's ambitions? The only way to counter these regressive forces is to get out and vote. And to help everyone else who feels the same way. If they need a hand, a ride, or a kick in the pants, please step forward to do so. If you have the time to act as a poll watcher or poll worker that's even better. But most of all, please don't get discouraged by polls, news reports, or malicious online trolling! Keep the faith and act on your convictions while supporting the candidates who will stand up for you. It's the American, and the Virginia Way. Sincerely, ![]() Will McGurn Interim President, The Virginia Council ![]() Treat yourself to a night of witty humor and pointed commentary from Kyle Mann, editor-in-chief of the hilarious Babylon Bee.
