The Virginia Council condemns in the strongest and most unequivocal terms possible the horrific act of political violence aimed at former President Donald Trump during his political rally in Pennsylvania, this Saturday evening. This type of violence has absolutely no place in American politics, or American life, and it should be condemned uniformly by all persons, across the political spectrum. We thank God that the President’s life was spared and for the quick reaction of the U.S. Secret Service and other brave members of law enforcement agencies. We also mourn the innocent bystander who was killed by the would-be assassin and offer our prayers for the other attendees who were seriously injured.
This is a dark day in American history. It was a direct assault on our way of life, our democracy, and our freedoms. We offer our prayers for President Trump’s speedy recovery, and we hope all persons of good will, regardless of their political philosophy, will work to ensure this obscene violence is banished from public life in America.
